Yesterday In The "Citi"

It was Mini Car Day. The Mets won 6-2 over the Joke called the Washington Nationals. No Homers were hit. Members of Red Sox Nation were present.

To my Baseball Brethren called "The Nation"-just because you and I share the same rooting affection for the Old Town Team, it does NOT mean that I root for the Patriots. I root for something older called the NY Giants. I remember Frank Gifford as a Half Back, & Y A Tittle as QB. With the way The Patriots played yesterday, it was as if Belichik was taping yesterday's Mets Game. The Mets did the fans a favor by showing J-E-T-S highlights, along with Red Sox Highlights on the Big Board in Left Center Field.

Wilson Valdez tripled in two runs. Daniel Murphy doubled in two runs. David Wright is still stagestruck by Citi Field. And John Maine Pitched well & got the W in the Books.

A Wounded Soldier was introduced and given a huge ovation by the 38K crowd. Sal Manzo, in glorious Brooklyn Accent, sang "God Bless America."

Brian Stokes almost blew it in the 9th Inning, giving up 2 runs. K-Rod saved the day with his 33rd Save.

Wee Ones yelled at me for wearing a Red Sox Cap at Citi Field. They should yell at Freddie, Jeffy & Omar for putting together this wreck of a team. The Team NEEDS a Big Bat, BADLY.

The Sox Destroyed The Orioles. The Red Sox are only 5 in back of the Yankees, who cut the cheese in Seattle, losing 7-1.

& The Texas Rangers, once owned by G. W. Bush, continue to lose ground to the Red Sox in the Wild Card Race.

& The Tampa Bay Rays are going NOWHERE. That Cowbell Routine of theirs was born at Shea Stadium. Cowbell Man told me that Stu Sternberger, owner of the Rays & a Season Ticket Holder at Citi Field, in short a lifelong Mets Fan originally from Canarsie, Brooklyn, copied the idea for use at "The Trop."

My parting words for Citi Field were "Freddie & JEFFY? Thanks For Nothing, You Schmucks."

Citi Gives A Nod To Fenway Park

A Section like 401, in Shea Stadium, would mean behind Home Plate, as Even and Odd #d Sections fanned out in both directions:

Promenade Box 401, Follows the Fenway Park System. Like Grandstand 1, it's out by the Outfield. Sections in Citi follow the Fenway System;

It's definitely NOT Shea Stadium in any way, shape or form;

Replay-Ville

Citi Field must be the quirkiest MLB Park in existence. For two evenings, Video Review has been used by MLB Umpires to determine whether or not home runs were hit:

On Monday Evening, Gary Sheffield clocked a line drive above the left center field line, above the 16 Foot Wall. There is a fence, recessed by about 1 foot. Upon video review, it showed that the ball was above the line and over that wall;

This evening, the Pepsi Porch, with a nod to both Tiger Stadium and the Polo Grounds, was the location of another video review. Mets 1st Baseman Dan Murphy, hit a ball into the area by Modell's Corner, above it. The ball stuck something and dropped straight down, where it was fielded by Adam Dunn;

As Warner Wolf would say, "Let's Go To The Videotape", it was time for another "Video Review". Umpires have views of two television feeds, in this case, both M A S N and S N Y, both fed to the Video Review Room on Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan;

In the Murphy Homer, the ball came up to the Subway Sign on the Pepsi Porch & dropped suddenly, as if it clipped something, ever so-slightly. Then the emerging Umpires gave the Homer Sign;

With the high walls, fencing, asymmetric distances and a section hanging over Right Field, as if in tribute to Tiger Stadium and the Polo Grounds, Citi Field has to be the Quirkiest Park, where one has to earn Homers or have them "Video-Reviewed";

There was no doubt when Dunn hit a ball to RCF, but cracking his homer to the Rear Of The Replica of the Hells Gate Bridge-almost 500 Feet;

Strange how Santana BB'd 6 but K'd 11;

The NY Mets have been involved in 4 Replays in 6 Games;

A Look At Citi Field And Yankee Stadium III

1st, Citi Field:

A Bit Pricey, but more-intimate. Seats will be Polo Grounds Green, field distances will attempt to emulate Shea Stadium, but be asymetrical, ala Ebbets Field. Seating will Face The Infield. Spacious Concourses will be a part of the Fan Experience. Like Ebbets Field, there will be a Left Field Grandstand. There will be more seating in the Outfield Area, likening it to Ebbets Field and The Polo Grounds. It'll be an improvement over Shea Stadium, with Wider Seats;

Yankee Stadium III:

Pricier than YS II. True to YS I, with the Frieze lining the roof. Seats are all Blue, like in YS I and II. Very Pricey, more of a snob atmosphere. Tier in new YS is only about 7 Rows. The Bleacher Creatures will add to a "New Toilet" Experience, as they'll be just as stupid, as they were in "Toilet II". Same Dimensions on field as in YS II;

While Red Sox Nation Prefers Fenway Park, I'm of The belief that they'll adopt their Exile Home, Citi Field, Quite-Nicely;

While Yankee Stadium III is still regarded as "That Giant Toilet In The Bronx", as it will not be on the Original Site;

And Remember this-Babe Ruth's Widow, Clare Ruth, was voted in 1969 as One Of The 25 Greatest Mets Fans Of All Time;

It'll be dismantled. Where the Stadium was, metal markers will be put where the bases and Home Plate were located. Parking lot and greenery for Citi Field, will be put in its' place;
