This Is What Is Used To Write The Shea Stadium Articles

I know what works for me and This Device, weighing only 5.2 Ounces, saves me more aggravation of having to think about what I have to write, online on Blogger. The Palm T/X, which I bought 3 Years Ago, is my instrument of choice, in writing the "Farewell Shea" Stories, as it's portable and the information can be transferred over to my eMac, via Bluetooth. The Palm T/X can also be used as a standalone computer, as it can go online in a Wi Fi Area, from whence e-mail and documents could be sent:

Any music downloaded to my Mac, has been transferred via Bluetooth to this Palm T/X, as it can also serve as my music player
;

My Samsung SGH A737 Phone on AT & T, serves as my camera and Video Camera, with still photos and video, transferred via Bluetooth to the Mac;

I know it's a tight budget operation, but the Shea Stadium Farewell Story is getting out there, quickly;

Ciao, Shea Stadium!

I Must've Guessed Right About Shea Stadium Because Gate C Is Mostly Gone

Since The Old Windbreaking Facade with a Player Outline is gone, so is most of Gate C. The Deconstruction Line is moving to Gate D. The Escalator from Gate D is gone, and all that remains intact is Gate D and The Players Entrance, with Will Call Windows and Advance Sale Windows:

I figure that by this weekend, The Line of Deconstruction will be by Gate D;

The Deconstruction is moving along rather-quickly, as well as the building of the new plaza and parking for $iti Field;

Later(No Pictures as there are plenty on this site)!

Shea Stadium Is So Close To Being Gone

In a sense there's agony, in waiting for this dismantling, but it gives one a time to meditate, and to remember times in one's life there:

To be at Shea Stadium, during the 09/11 Time, was interesting. To be at Shea Stadium for a Seminarian to ask your Knights Of Columbus Council to assist some young seminarian, who, BTW, was ordained as a Transitional Deacon in Rome, with Baseball as a backdrop
, is a beautiful memory;

To The Memories, with the Sweet, Outnumbering The Bitter, For Me;

Shea Stadium Other Events Video Commentary

As Shea Stadium was a Multi-Purpose Stadium, being home to Baseball, NFL Football, Soccer, Concerts(Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, The Clash, ETC) and a Papal Event with Pope John Paul II, it went through a LOT of use, even more so than RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, as Shea saw MLB Action for 45 Consecutive Seasons, whereas RFK only saw MLB for 13 of its' 48 Seasons:

County Stadium in Milwaukee, WI, ran from 1953 until Y2K, and saw 44 Seasons of MLB(13 Braves Seasons from 1953 until 1965 and 31 Seasons of the Brewers, from 1970 until 2000, as well as 42 Seasons where the Green Bay Packers(NFL Charter Member), played Two Home Games per season;

While The NY Yankees love, in all their Dis-Ingenuity, to advertise that Yankee Stadium ran from 1923 until 2008, nothing could be further from the truth, in that the original Stadium was closed on Sunday, September 30th, 1973, and was ripped down, and a new Stadium, using the shell of the Original Stadium, opened on the site in April, 1976, so Shea Stadium was actually older, structurally, and was more in use than Yankee Stadium II;

This Video Commentary talks about Shea Stadium as a Real Multi-use Facility. Try to picture yourself at Shea Stadium in its' other uses;

Enjoy!

It's Strange But Shea Stadium OUTLASTED The Following Stadia

Veterans Stadium In Philadelphia(1971-2003):
Three Rivers Stadium In Pittsburgh(1970-2000);
Riverfront Stadium-Cincinatti(1970-2002);
Fulton County Stadium-Atlanta(1966-1996);
Houston Astrodome(1965-1999);
Is Older than Yankee Stadium II(1976-2008);
Busch Stadium II(1966-2005);

This is in the case of MLB, after 45 Seasons. It was host to the AFL and NFL for 20 Seasons. Shea hosted The Mets, Yankees, Jets and Giants in 1975, and the American Soccer League NY United in 1980 and a North American Soccer League NY Cosmos Playoff Game in 1976;

Shea Stadium really took a beating over the Years;

Now it's almost gone;

News Of Great Joy Of An Ordination In Rome

I've lived my whole life in The RC Diocese of Brooklyn, a wholly urban Diocese, separated from The RC Archdiocese of New York, by The East River, The Hudson River(The Mouth of Said River called NY Bay) and Long Island Sound. When I was born in Brooklyn, The Diocese covered all of Long Island, from Brooklyn in The West to Suffolk County in the East, including Fishers Island, NY, giving the Brooklyn Diocese, a Border with CT, NJ and RH. But in 1957, it was determined that a substantial Catholic Population, could be served by a New Diocese, so Rockville Centre was created, covering all of Nassau County and all of Suffolk County, except for Fishers Island, NY, which is now covered by The Diocese of Norwich, CT. I figured that I'd give you some background, on the Diocese of Brooklyn, now the Smallest Diocese in Area, but populated by 1.7 Million Catholics:

I was reading news in "The Tablet", the Official Diocesan Weekly Newspaper and a report caught my eye. It was about an Ordination of 2 Transitional Deacons in Rome;

I know one of those 2 Deacons. He was in a Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest, sponsored by Msgr Sherman Council #5103, from Saturday, January 7th, 1995 at Resurrection-Ascension Parish, in Middle Village, Queens, just up Woodhaven Boulevard from my residence. He was a Columbian Squire at Cathedral Preparatory Seminary, in Elmhurst, Queens, from 1996 until 2000. He moved on to studies at St John's University, under residence at the former Cathedral College Minor Seminary, before studies at Catholic University Of America in Washington, DC, leading to a Masters Degree.In 2005, he began studies for The Priesthood at The Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Just this past week he was Ordained a Transitional Deacon. He's pictured giving The Eucharist to his mom, who I've also met on more than 1 occasion;

I can remember 1 Saturday, in September, 2000, when I was at a Mets-Expos Game at Shea Stadium. I was seated in The Loge Section. I was sitting next to a former Emergency Medical Technician, who was also a Knight Of Columbus. He had his little nephew with him. He told me about being an Undergraduate Seminarian at Cathedral College Residence, in Douglaston, Queens, while going to St John's University. I mentioned that I was a Past Grand Knight of Msgr Sherman Council in East Glendale, Queens and mentioned about The Seminarian Donation Program, called The Refund Support For Vocations Program, sponsored by The Knights Of Columbus Supreme Council in New Haven, CT, where, when a Council sponsors a Seminarian, for $500, the Supreme Council will refund $100 back to that Council;

The Brother Knight-Seminarian, unselfishly, mentioned some Cathedral Prep Graduate named Daniel Champoli, from Resurrection-Ascension, Queens, as a Seminarian in Need;

It hit me-He was in FT(Free Throw)IV at R-A, in January, 1995, as was his brother, John. The Mets defeated the Expos, that afternoon(09-27-00). I left Shea Stadium, with tears pouring down my face, over the Report of a Seminarian In Need;

I can recall speaking to one of his former Parish Priests, namely, One Of The Founders of The National Marriage Encounter Movement. He rated Daniel Highly, stating that he's make a Great Priest. That Priest, Dr Robert Blauvelt, is now retired;

So I proposed his name to my Grand Knight, who wasn't thrilled with the idea. He claimed to have argued with Daniel's Mom and hated her attitude. I have a feeling that this supposed arguement never took place, because this guy had a History of Making Up Stories to cover his own tracks;

And So it is Today, The Reverand Deacon Daniel Champoli,has another appointment and that will be Priesthood in The Near Future. Pax Vobis, Danny;

In Nomini Patris, Et Filli, Et Spiritu Sancti, Amen.

The 7 Line Was Packed As If There Was A World Series At Shea Stadium

Of Course, Jeffy Skill Sets was more-interested in moving all operations to Citi Field, rather than put up with the INCONVENIENCE of a World Series getting in his way, which explains why Scott Schowenweiss was signed by Omar "He's In Charge-Yeah, Right" Minaya:

Mets Fans are going, on the Weekends, to the Old Shea Stadium, taking pictures of the progress of the dismantling of the old stadium;

I think that Citi Field is not the term that Old Guard Shea Types will refer to in going to Citi Field. They'll still say "I'm Going To Shea";

Tomorrow Night, my list of NY Area's Most-Ardent "Anti-Yankees" Fans I've Known, will be listed, with pictures and videos from Shea Stadium and Fenway Park;

Much Of Shea Stadium's Upper Level Is Gone

This whole Seat and Fixture Removal Project is on time and on schedule. Much of The Upper Level and Loge Level Seating Is Gone:

Then, Shea Stadium will be barren, and the tearing down of the structure will begin. It should take about 3 Months;

I'll pay a visit, sometime in February to the Site of So Much History;

There's Actually Someone Buried In The Bullpen At Shea Stadium

Mrs Bernice Shiner Gera, the 1st Female Professional Umpire, died in 1992 from Kidney Cancer:

A # of her ashes are mixed into the dirt in The Shea Stadium Right Field Bullpen, where Johnny Franco used to grow his tomatoes;

This didn't haunt the Bullpen, for only Minaya The Liar could do that;

Bernice was a Mets Employee after she left Umpiring;

Now her final resting place will be disturbed, as it's being dismantled as we speak;

Shea Stadium Is NOW History

It's OVER NOW.The Mets came up short. The Fans cried. Then they witnessed Mets History before their Eyes:

In this history, they saw guys like Fat Jack Fisher, Ron Hunt(Their 1st All Star), all the way to Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza;

Yogi Berra was given a Huge Welcome. Why? You see, Yogi played 4 Games in Shea's Right Field in 1965 and Coached 1st Base on the 1969 World Champion Mets and Managed the 1973 "Ya Gotta Believe" National League Championship Mets;

Ralph Kiner got a Hero's Welcome, as he's been with The Club, on Radio and Television, since 1962;

The 1986 World Championship Mets, perhaps The Baddest Bunch ever to Win A World Series, played a role here. Darryl Strawberry, Doc Gooden, Howard Johnson, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez+Jesse Orosco and Tim Teufel, were all there;

Cleon Jones and Ron Swoboda were there as well. The ONLY Member of BOTH The 1986 and 1969 World Champions, Bud Harrelson, was there as well. Ed Kranepool and Wayne Garrett, both members of the 1969 World Championship, as well as the '73 NL Championship, were there;

Willie Mays, like Yogi Berra, doesn't walk around too easily. Willie, who saw action in The Polo Grounds with the NY Giants, before going out to Frisco, came back in 1972 in a trade. Willie was in the 1973 World Series at age 42 with the Mets;

In The Closing Cerfemonies, Those Mets Greats, all touched Home Plate, on last time. Yogi looked a little confused in touching the plate. It was sad;

A touching moment came when it was "The Last Pitch At Shea Stadium" as Tom Seaver threw it to Mike Piazza on a bounce. They then waved to the Throng at Shea Stadium, and disappeared behind The Centerfield Fence, thus Closing Shea Stadium;

The Fireworks were shot off;

Others who were honored included Lee Mazilli and John Franco(Franco was on the 2000 NL Championship, with Lee from both the Lean Years and 1986 World Championship). Dave "King Kong" Kingman, a part of some good years, whose homers would land on the scoreboard, was there. So was Doug Flynn, a Fine 2nd Baseman, who also saw the Lean Years, but was part of The Reds 1976 World Championship;

My Memories of Shea Stadium;

September, 1966 and my 1st Game, where the Mets lost 6-0;

September, 1976, where Seaver struck out his 200th Batter for the 9th Straight Season(Pirates Catcher Manny Sanguillen);

April 8th, 1969 with Mets losing to the Montreal Expos(NOW the Washington Nationals), 11-10 with Mets Pinch Hitter, Duffy Dyer, hitting the ONLY Pinch Hit Homer in 1969;

And many others, including The Pope John Paul II Visit in October, 1979 and a Jets Playoff Game in December, 1969;

And the Night The Mets Clinched the 2000 Wild Card, vs The Braves;

And The Night that in The Subway Series, Carlos Delgado and David Wright, Homered into a Clear and Cold Sunday Night, in '06;

And Many Others, including my last-ever game there, in August, '08(The Bullpen RUINED A Fine Pedro Martinez Performance);

AND So it Goes;

"Shea Goodbye";

Ron Darling, Keith Hernandez, both got emotional. So Did I;

Farewell Shea Stadium;

Mr Met pulled down the #1 Sign and the Sign read "Citi Field";

Farewell-It's been a flood of memories;

Good Night;

Shea Stadium Is Gone!

The Gorman Family Opening And Closing

Tom Gorman, NL Umpire, was behind The Plate on April 17th, 1964:

Brian Gorman, his son, is Umpiring at 1st Base at Shea Stadium Today;

Both Ends of The Family will have seen a Beginning and End of The Same Stadium;

That will be a footnote;

Oliver Perez retired the side in the top of the 1st Inning;

I Remember 1999's Last Game In Shea Stadium(Regular Season)

When The Mets Won, That Stadium shook like there was an earthquake, as I was dizzy and it was hot:

The Mets then played The Reds in Cincinatti on a Monday Night;

When there's SOMETHING to Cheer, Shea Stadium rocks and shakes like no place on Earth, except during an earthquake;

Will that be that feeling? Stay Tuned;
