Suffering & Triumph-New Orleans

From Intense Suffering to Triumph

For "The Big Easy", as New Orleans is nicknamed, saw utter destruction from Hurricane Katrina, with a populace which experienced no joy, yet there was hope.

The Saints were nomads in 2005, even unto playing a "Home" Game in East Rutherford, NJ.

In this case, the 1st Time Saints, under Sean Payton, took down the Colts in Miami, 31-17. It feels like SB III, Jets-Colts all over again.

From The Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, "And Where There's Sadness, Ever Joy", as both a City like New Orleans & her fans, have gone from Despair to Hope and Triumph, not only on the field of play, but in Spirit as well.

As Major League Baseball looms, for the Red Sox, the Spirit was enkindled after 86 Years, in 2004 & again in 2007. For often long waits, which are penances to awaken one's soul, cause the triumph to be so much-sweeter.

I'll Be Rather-Pleased When SB XLIV Ends While I Have BETTER Things To Do Such As Inspiring CATHOLIC Liturgy

I do remember WHEN Catholic Liturgy was SOLEMN in the 1960s in Brooklyn. Yes, it was in Latin. Whenever I have the occasion of being at a Spanish-Speaking Liturgy, Memories of the Latin Mass are present:

Today is that Most-Secular Day Of "Worship & Adoration", where Men, going through a 1 Day Period Of Adolescence, spend time around the Electronic Altar called the Television, with an Adult Beverage in hand as well as snacks, as their "Communion" with a Game, said to emulate that ancient Roman Game of "Harpaston";

And, Once Again, I will be at an Ordinary Rite Of Catholic Mass, where The Faithful will have the Option of Standing In A Queue For Reception Of The Body Of Christ, as well as for Kneeling to Receive The Body Of Christ at The Altar Rail, along with singing in Plainsong, some of it in Latin, though the "Kyrie" is sung in Greek. Even the Vernacular(English) is sung in Gregorian Chant. The "Agnus Dei" & Communion Antiphon are chanted in Latin. Last Sunday, the words "Pax Dominum Sit Semper Vobiscum" was chanted by The Priest, to which The Faithful responded with "Et Cum Spiritu Tuo." For One should understand that even in this Ordinary Rite Rendition of The Holy Sacrifice Of The Mass in The Latin Rite Of The Church, Catholic & Apostolic, That Liturgy can be rendered with Beauty, Solemnity & Dignity. This is helping to bring the Young People back to Mass. Guitar(Folk) Masses just WON'T Do It;

& The National Football League can play on without me, with their Secular Celebration;

Dear Jets Fans-Time To Put A Man(ning) In His Place-Root For The 1st Timers, The NO Saints

Well, Seyton Manning(With Regards to Ol' Fitzy) is back in the Super Bowl Again(Barf, Barf):

Just because he's in your conference, doesn't mean you have to root for him;

I have an idea. Root for the NFC Champions, the New Orleans Saints. NOW, those are fans who've been to Purgatory & Then Some, watching losing season after Season, since 1961. They do have Drew Brees(QB) & Reggie Bush. It's time for a 1st Timer to win all the Marbles;

Why Not!

Say one thing about Rex Ryan-He's causing Belly Laughs:
Last Night, he forewent a Meal(Quasi-Fast). Did he do a "Slim Fast"(Bwahahahahaha)?

Today, Two Rookie Head Coaches are playing for all the Marbles in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, namely the Forementioned Rex Ryan & Jim Caldwell with The Colts;

The NY Titans/Jets, an Original AFL Franchise, takes on The Lineage Franchise called The Dayton Triangles/Brooklyn Dodgers/Brooklyn Tigers(Both Brooklyn NFL Teams having played at Ebbets Field)/Boston Yanks(In part, once owned by one William Alfred Shea, Esquire)/New York Bulldogs/New York Yankees/Dallas Texans/Baltimore Colts/Indianapolis Colts. In case the Modern Day Jets Fans don't remember this fact, The Jets once called Shea Stadium, Home from 1964 until 1983 & are the 1st World Champions of Shea Stadium(The Joe Namath Era, not much after 1970);

Rex is as much of a Showman as "Ol' Buddy" Ryan, his Father;

Game is 3:00PM, ET on CBS(WCBS TV HD 2 in NYC, KYW TV HD 3 in Philadelphia & WBZ TV HD 4 in Boston);

The Jets Phenomenon

Jets Fans Then & Now I remember Shea Stadium as the NY Jets Home, especially when standing room was $3 and $5 a couple of years later. The Jets, BTW, were the 1st World Champions of Shea Stadium, not the Mets.

That chant of "J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets", originated with The Anzalone Brothers, Mike The Sanitationman and Ed The Fireman. Both are from College Point in Queens, not far from Citi Field. It's a chant which originated in Giants Stadium.

I hated The Meadowlands. I miss Ol' Shea, as it was the "Spiritual Home of The Jets", going back to Joe Willie Namath, Don Maynard and Matt Snell. With NJ State Troopers around Giants Stadium, it felt like one was in another country. Considering that the Jets Fan base is Long Island Oriented, New Jersey seems like another country altogether.

And they would have been back in NYC had it not been for those Madoff Investors, Charles and Jim Dolan, controllers of Cablevision and MSG, home to a certain NBA Team, who SUCK, called The Knicks, though they are improving. Making a deal with Al D'Amato to block the West Side Stadium, is a sign that The Dolans' are monopolists, who fear competition.

The irony of yesterday's victory is that loads of Jets Fans filled up THE Most Rabid Boston Red Sox-New England Patriots Bar in the NY-NJ Region. Business was brisk and all had a great time. Hey! ONLY In NY!

Oh, Buddy?

On Sunday, January 12th, 1969, in the days before email, Chat and Macs, with Joe Willie Namath, the NY Jets defeated the Baltimore Colts, 16-7 in Miami's Orange Bowl. A certain unsung hero, who kicked 1 Extra Point & 3 Field Goals was the last of the non soccer kickers, Jim Turner. He was in reality, the only real offense, along with a Touchdown Run by Matt Snell. The Jets, the 1st Champions of Shea Stadium, had a great definsive coordinator by the name of Buddy Ryan.

Today, his son, Rex, has the reinns to the team, who after a 17-14 triumph over the favored SD Chargers, go onto Indianapolis to Face the Colts.

Like Father, Like Son!

NY Jets 24-Cincinatti Bengals 14-1st Round AFC Playoffs

The Kid, Mark Sanchez wasn't bad at all, throwing no interceptions, running a nice ground game, in 8 Degree Wind Chill at Paul Brown Stadium;

Rex Ryan, son of Buddy Ryan, who was the Defensive Line Coach of the Super Bowl III Champion Jets, was a winner today, as The Jets won a rare Back To Back Series with the Bengals;

It was like old times, as the Jets were on NBC, for the 1st Time in over 11 Years, and won both Games on that Network;

Playoffs continue on CBS, next week;

I don't know if a Mets Game, in the past two seasons, qualifies as a penance, but Shea Stadium sure got a lot of use:

SB XLIII Or "The Losers Bowl"

The NFL History shows that there was a Team called "Card-Pitt" in 1944, due to the Wartime Merger, in WWII of The Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Cardinals. Half of the Games were played in Chicago's Comiskey Park and the other half at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh:

This was due to teams losing players to The Armed Forces in WWII;

This Combined effort, UTTERLY SUCKED, with a Winless Season;

After The War ended, the Steelers and Cardinals, went their own ways;

The Steelers stayed in Pittsburgh and won some Super Bowls;

The Cardinals moved from Chicago to St Louis, and, eventually, to Arizona;

Tomorrow, The Winners get to drop the Losing 1944 Season;

The SB losers get to keep it;

NBC Sports will carry this show from Tampa, tomorrow;

They Don't Cover The Super Bowl Like This Anymore

It has been 40 Years to the Moment, when NBC Sports carried Super Bowl III, with a ONE Hour Pre-Game Show and a Game which started at 2:00PM EST:

The NY Jets defeated the Baltimore Colts, 16-7. Currently, The Colts are in Indianapolis and The NY Jets are based in Florham Park, NJ, in Morris County;

People in those days, were finished by 5:45PM with the Game;

Now it's 6 Hours of Pre-Game and more nonsense during the Coverage. For awhile, I even lost interest in Football, itself;

50 Years Have Passed Since The Greatest Game Ever Played

That Game was in Yankee Stadium I(The place that closed, recently, was the 2nd Stadium on the same site). The Baltimore Colts vs The NY Giants were really the 1st Nationally Telecast NFL Championship Game, putting the NFL on The Map:

Before the Championship Game, The NFL was followed on a Regional basis. The New England Region received NY Giants Telecasts on CBS Affiliates all over New England, especially, Boston, Hartford and Providence(This may explain why in the Boston and Providence Areas, that during Super Bowl XLII, there was still a tremendous following of NY Giants Fans vs the N E Patriots);

Bob Wolff did the Perfect Game(1956 World Series Telecast), and did the "Greatest Game Ever Played", Game Call;

The Colts are in Indianapolis, but not recognized by the NFL as the Baltimore Franchise. The NY Giants may be playing in NJ, across the Hudson River, but are still here in the area;

The NFL as we know it, was born on this day;

At Least Post Season didn't last into Mid-February;

The Coach of the Baltimore Colts, Weeb Eubank, would also win Super Bowl III, on 01/12/1969, as the AFL NY Jets, defeated the Baltimore Colts, at the Orange Bowl in Miami, FL;

There's no Doubt that the Giants are the defending Super Bowl Champions, as they roll along;

It might be a NY Year and Super Bowl, only it would take the Jets 40 Years to return;

It Was A Grand Thing To See A Protege' Of Bill Parcells Winning The Super Bowl-Great One Tommy

Tom Brady got tossed like a salad> In fact, he got sacked 5 Times. The New England Patriots lost it 17-14 to the NY Giants in AZ:

NE had no real Offensive Line-Tuesday, the NY Giants get "The Canyon Of Heroes Treatment", with a Parade up Lower Broadway, which is well-deserved;

This was the kind of game that required total attention, as it was THAT Interesting-I was in no mood for idle conversation;

Congratulations, Tom Coughlin;

Fitzy is NOT Happy, for once;

Belechik is unhappy-in fact so unhappy, he was taping Celebrations in Queens Bars;

Plaxico Burress had the Game-Winning Touchdown with :35 to play;

Could The Idiots on "FOX NFL Sunday" have looked any DUMBER. Howie? I know that you're from Boston-you don't need to put on your Sawx Cap. @ least Jimmy Johnson had some intelligent perspective on Belechik, losing;

Joe Buck looked like a DOOF in that "Pepsi" Commercial. Wait, he even puts me to sleep during The World Series;

Like my father once said, a victory by an Underdog is usually-sweeter;

A Belichik Joke

Bill Belichik dies in a car crash and ends up in front in front of St.Peter.
St. Peter says I don’t know what to do with you. You’ve created many Videos and helped a lot of Coaches in the new electronic age, but you’ve also been a royal pain to some of our big fans. I’ll tell you what, I’ll let you have a look at heaven and hell and choose for yourself.
So St. Peter shows Bill heaven, with the clouds and Angels and harps, and Bill thinks to himself: “OK, as far as it goes.”
Then St. Peter shows Bill hell, with scantily clad bathing beauties on a tropical beach with palm trees and Bill thinks to himself: “This is a no-brainer!”
So Bill says to St. Peter: “I’ll take hell!”
Two weeks later St. Peter thinks to himself: “I wonder how Bill is doing?”
So he drops by hell and finds Bill chained to a wall, consumed by flames and screaming in agony.
“Where are the bathing beauties, where’s the beach?” Cried Bill. “This isn’t what you showed me!”
“That”, said St. Pete, “was a demo.”

Bwahahahaha!
