Doris Kearns Goodwin And Dem Bums And Me

Her move into The Boston Red Sox, was predicated on a Team which played at Bedford Avenue and Sullivan Place, in The Current Crown Heights Section of Brooklyn, near Prospect Park:

THAT was the Site of Ebbets Field, bounded by Mc Keever Street, Sullivan Street and Bedford Avenue. Trolleys carried those Ol' Brooklyn Dodgers Fans to that ballpark. So Did the B M T Subway to the Prospect Park Station;

Ebbets Field was a Bandbox Style Ballpark. In short, it only held 33K Seats and had two decks. It also had a huge Italian Marble Rotunda;

So, while living in Boston, Doris Kearns of Rockville Centre, In Nassau County, a New York Suburban County, went to Fenway Park, which she dubbed "Flatbush North". People arrive there by Underground Trolley at Kenmore Station, on what is known as the Green Line "T";

Ebbets Field was opened in 1913 and ceased all operations in 1960. Baseball-Wise, Brooklyn died in 1957. To Doris, a 1st Trip to Fenway Park, rekindled that Brooklyn Baseball Spirit, as well as that sense of Brooklyn Baseball, only it was at a Bandbox Ballpark, bounded by Brookline Avenue, Landsdowne Street,and Van Ness Street and Jersey Street(Yawkey Way), in Boston;

As I was 8.5 Months Old, at the Time of the 1st Dodgers World Championship, which sent Brooklyn Dodgers Fans into a Frenzy, all over N Y C, particularly in Brooklyn(1955), it took that Year of 2004, to explain what happened in Brooklyn, in 1955;

A ride on The "T" Green Line to Kenmore, showed what it was like,going to either Prospect Park Station or on a Trolley to Bedford Avenue, to a Dodgers Game. Only, for me, it was Red Sox Baseball, with a "B" on the Cap, and NOT "Dem Bums";

Bounding into Fenway Park, after The "T" Ride, gave me a sense of the "Brooklyn", I NEVER Knew. As Joe Castiglione would put it, on Radio, "Can You Believe It", it would be being transported back into a time warp-an Urban Ballpark, where people would arrive by public transportation;

Just like it was in Brooklyn, many years ago, Boston's Kenmore Area is where Serious Major League Baseball is played. Fenway Park has been around since 1912 on the same site and has been in continuous use since 1912, only it has received a Good Number of face-lifts. It has NOT been neglected, unlike Wrigley Field in Chicago, where The Cubs play, but that park, structurally, is falling apart from wear;

Fenway Park does NEED new Grandstand Seats, as those old blue seats have been worn for wear. The Ownership Group has made many improvements, including backs for the Bleacher Seats, and made Wider Concourses in the structure;

Now, a new Ebbets Field-Tribute Park is structurally-finished in the Old Parking Lot, behind the Center Field Fence at Shea Stadium, with an upper-level, where it's last row, finishes about 7 Rows below the last 7 Rows of Shea Stadium. This is an Ebbets Field TRIBUTE Park? I can still be on a 1st Name Basis with Pilots, landing at La Guardia Airport. Where's the Trolley Line? what's so memory-evoking as the I R T #7 Flushing Line? Wait! On The Old B M T to Prospect Park from Either Brighton Beach or Franklin Avenue and Fulton Street, the Train was the #7. The Trolley is now a Hybrid Electric Q48 M T A-N Y C T Bus Line;

Only, by Fenway Park, and the The Ebbets Field Site, people actually lived or live there. By the new "Citi Field", the nearest person to live in that area, is a few blocks away. Currently, by Shea Stadium, there's no "There", there;

Give me Fenway Park for 2 to 3 Games a year. It's more "Brooklyn" than the Citi Field Area will ever be;

There's another reason why the Mets didn't attract Doris Kearns Goodwin-something called that Old Enemy Ballpark, longtime home of the N Y(NOW S F Giants), the Polo Grounds+the SYMETRYCAL-NESS of Shea Stadium. Fenway Park is asymetrycal. Old Time Fans KNOW what they want;

MCM-1900-The Road To MM Or 2000

It was 1900. The National League was strong. It was the ONLY Game in town. Brooklyn won the whole ball of Wax at Washington Park at 3rd Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, then linked by Trolley and Elevated Lines. It was the Centennial Year and the end of the 19th Century:

The Road to MM or 2000 Posts, begins right now;

The Western Association of Professional Baseball Clubs was looking to set up as The American League, but had not yet done so;

America was on the Cusp Of Modernity, with the AT & T Telephone network being built. There were no Cell Phones. Boston had a Subway, which today would be called a Light Rail System. Fenway Park was only a Glimmer in someone's eye;

1900-On The Cusp of a Century known for Technological Advances;

Funny, but when I started to write this blog, I had no idea that it would expand into other Subjects. I had no idea that I'd write beyond the scope of the Boston Red Sox, but I guess it was inevitable. After all, I do live in NYC, in a Borough just next to Brooklyn, called Queens;

Baseball In Boston, I've written of as the BROOKLYN I never got to experience as a young fan;

Where Shea Stadium is now, was, quite-literally, a garbage dump, not unlike the current, soon to be demolished stadium;

Why do I Write? Hey, I enjoy it;

As Manny Blasted 504 Onto Lansdowne

Reportedly into the Parking Garage, The Red Sox DESTROYED Seattle, 11-3 on FOX, live from Fenway Park:

Wakey had it all, while Miguel Batista was getting clocked;

Somebody get the NY Mets a huge pot of coffee-their bats and they need it;

I think the Mets are on Iggy for a couple of days;

Youk N Manny

Youkilis has a tendency to toss a bat into the dugout, in fury after a strikeout:

But, Manny objected and Youk got warned in the past about it(Must be too much Starbucks' Espresso or any coffee), so Youk got a little crazy about it;

Youk? A tossed bat can be construed as a weapon. Someone can get hurt;

Later, Folks!

In A Change Of Scenery The Sawx Won Again

The Place was "The Hairy Monk" at 337 3rd Avenue by East 25th Street:

Yes, Manhattan Island is NOT just for Yankees Fans anymore;

After "Professor Thom's", "The Hairy Monk" is a real, friendly Red Sox Location;

My friend and I met the Man behind all the Red Sox Memorabilia, known as Ed, who can remember two guys on the Red Sox Radio and TV Networks in the '50s, known to us as Curt Gowdy Sr and Bob Murphy(The Same Murph of 42 Seasons in the NY Mets Radio Booth as well as Television). Ed's Father played on Washington Senators in the 30s and 40s;

5-1 Red Sox over The "Original" Tampa Bay Rays, a Pizza Team, who tends to win, mostly indoors. J.D, Drew continues his hot hitting hand and had a Ground Rule Double to RF. Coco Crisp was hitting well as well. Josh Beckett got the win. In relief were Hideki Okajima and Craig Hansen, and both did well to wrap up the game;

Big Papi is missed, but The Sox have a LOT of depth. The game was seen on NESN. Red Sox moved back into 1st place over the Famous Rays(As Chris Wertz would call them);

The Detroit Red Wings won their 11 Stanley Cup in the NHL, defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins, last night in The Igloo, 3-2. IMHO, the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best of all the Playoff Systems, as those Games are tense;

Thank You to that Young Lassie from Beverly, MA, for giving me that sweet kiss. It made my night. I think she and I discussed what should Curt Schilling do about his shoulder, one fair night;

Brian of The Red Sox Meetup Group, had a nice contingent there, last night;

Pedro Is Back-Sox Crack the Original Rays 7-4 In The Fens

Mets crushing the SF Giants 9-6. Sr Martinez won his 210th Game and had 2 hits, a run scored and a Run Knocked in:

Barry Zito didn't last too long, giving up 5 Earned Runs. Barry? Give back the money;

Manny Delcarmen? You scare me, almost as much as Aaron Heilman. Caught from 7th Inning onward. Thank goodness Papelbon was sharp;

Later Folks!

Papi's Vitamin Water Ad

It's seen In Fenway Park, on the Concourses and in the Toilets:

The Backdrop is NOT Fenway Park. The Enhanced Vitamin Water Company is not based in the Commonwealth of MA. As it turns out, the Company is based in Whitestone, Queens;

The Ballpark used for the backdrop, is located at 126th Street and Roosevelt Avenue;

Currently, I call it "The DUMP". The Place is NOT CHARMING. And it's going to be replaced by an Ebbets Field Replica;

Papi is a CHAMPION. The Backdrop is NOT a Champion Location. But, their Fans are our friends, unto the point where those fans are given refuge in our Red Sox Bars;

It's The Site of "Game 6" of The 1986 World Series. The Press Level is what Gave The Place away. The Place's Upper Level, is quite-familiar to me. The Beer is STALE, there;

Papi Ortiz? You're a Champion. You DESERVE a Championship Backdrop, which is current;

NOT a Backdrop for 1986;

OUTDOOR Baseball-Great For Throwing Off An INDOOR Team Like Tampa Bay

As in a 7-3 loss to the Red Sox, as there's no climate control except for Ma Nature:

Scott Kazmir got the Loss & Dice K, The Win, as the Sox are hitting again;

LA Angels Of Anaheim 7, Red Sox 5 @ Fenway & A Streak Is Broken

As The Mighty Quinn would put it, The Red Sox NEVER lost a game while he was there. Well, Quinn's streak has ended by a 7-5 score. FLU VACCINE BADLY-NEEDED IN FENWAY.
