High Five 5th Avenue Yesterday On March 17th

High Five Avenue
You are the Parade Marshall for your Irish County at the NYC St. Patrick's Day. Today, I filled that role for the Queens County Board of The Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish Catholic Social Fraternal Order.
Where did all those NY Jets Fans go?
Why do I ask that question? In prior St. Patrick's Day Parades, I witnessed so many Green NY Jets Jerseys being worn and the chant of "J-E-T-S" on 5th Avenue. Where was JETS Nation TODAY?
Today was born the new Queens County 5th Avenue Tradition of The High Five. I love when the Wee Ones do it with you, but many adults joined in. The "J-E-T-S" chant was used four times. People would chant "Hey Marshall" & "The High Five" would work the way on 5th Avenue.
A Memorable March 17th!

A Beautiful Spring-Like St.Patrick's Day

We of Irish Descent, look so forward to St. Patrick's Day. It comes and it goes. Today it was rather mild in NYC but it was dry and not bloody humid. Several years ago, the temperature was 73•F, but horrifically Humid, which caused me to perspire out Electrolytes, only to take in Gatorade, only to lose those Electrolytes & this was in the Middle 1990s.
Today, it was warm on the 5th Avenue Route, but it was dry and comfortable, requiring only water for me.

For Corned Beef on St. Patrick's Day
Two places, Katz Delicatessen on The Lower East Side & Ben's Best on Queens Blvd in Rego Park are at the top of the list for this NY Jewish Deli Delicacy. These are the two best places for Corned Beef, served on rye bread with mustard.
The Irish from Eire will be at Katz today.

Do Us A Favor-FORGET The Green Beer, Corned Beef And Cabbage-It Isn't Irish

Do remember that it's a Catholic Feast Day. Do remember that Padraig was Welsh and every bit as Celtic as The Irish. Note that SNAKES did NOT exist in Eire, so Padraig didn't drive snakes into the Irish Sea, the Best Thing to happen between Ireland and England(LOL):

Green Beer is AMERICAN, Period. Corned Beef and Cabbage is so NY Jewish Deli;

In 1945, President Harry S Truman wanted the great 5th Avenue St Patrick's Day Parade continued for the Morale Of The American And Allied Troops in WWII;

For you see, The St Patrick's Day Parade in NYC, predates the Republic Of The United States of America, by 14 Years. It'll be streamed around the world via the web and on WNBC 4, from 11AM to 3PM;

It's also the start of NY Jets Rallies, because of their green colors;

Only In NY's Parade could Red Sox and Yankees Fans renew their rivalry, followed by Tea, or a Pint of Guinness Extra Stout. Mets Fans have also joined the fray. Just be grateful that Parade Coverage is NOT a Production of those guys at FOX Sports, with one Commentator getting in 17+ mentions of Derek Jeter(Note That Commentator is NOT Named Tommy Smyth);

God Save Ireland;

God Bless America;

Mychal

The St Patrick's Day Parade In NY-Older Than The Republic Of The USA

Since 1762 in Manhattan, 1st in the area of what is Chinatown, until 5th Avenue, from W and E 44th Streets until East 86th Street, there have been 247 Consecutive St Patrick's Day Parades:

From the Time of The 13 Colonies, until the Present, there has been a Self-Sustaining Parade. In 1938, it was a 1 Hour Parade, due to the Great Depression. There were plans to cancel the 1945 Parade, until President Truman intervened and requested to keep it going for The Morale Of The Troops, in WWII;

Michael J Gibbons is the Grand Marshall for the 2009 Parade(#248). He was installed as Grand Marshall, last evening. Last season, Football(Soccer) Commentator TOMMY SMYTH(Y Not The I) was Grand Marshall;

The Parade Chairman, John Dunleavy, who, for 25 Years was a Bus Driver and Superintendent for MaBSTOA, follows in the Tradition of The Late Francis Beirne, who started with 5th Avenue Coach Lines and retired from MaBSTOA. It was often known that when the Irish landed in NY, they often became Bus Drivers for 5th Avenue Coach and Surface Transit Corporation, and even in the early days of MaBSTOA, or Manhattan And Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority;

There are people who often call for all Ethnic Parades to be replaced by an America Day Parade, but this Parade is not only a celebration of Irish Culture in America and Of The Catholic Faith, it's very much a celebration of America, Herself, as The Parade has been marching since before the Republic of The United States Of America;

NBC4 and The Travel Channel will carry the parade on March 17th at 11:00AM. It will be seen around the World, via the World Wide Web, streaming live. It is seen live online in Eire;

Slainte!
