Salve Regina Academy opens their doors. It is a new era, with the merger of 3 Parish Schools in Northeast Brooklyn.
The Era of The Parish Parochial School is ending, being replaced with the world of the corporate merger. Welcome to Regionalization.
To continue the Catholic Educational Mission, schools are being merged into academies.
The Merger of St. Sylvester School, St. Rita School & St. Michael-St. Malachy School, gives us Salve Regina Academy.
It will be interesting being a double alumnus, both of St. Sylvester School & Salve Regina Academy, as the merger provides for the continuation of the three schools as one unit, supported by 3 Parishes.
Two days before the last dismissal from St. Sylvester School, Sr. Mary Cox, SC-H, passed on at age 90. From 1959 until 1965, she was both a Sisters of Charity Mother Superior & Principal of St. Sylvester School. She was then known as Sister Marie Joseph, SC-H.
