On New Media

On the use of the "New Media", have those of The Right Of Centre, started to catch up, or are they still into "Old Media"? The People With The Barack Obama Campaign are tech savvy, as in Personal Tech. Startups like tumblr(New York) and Posterous(San Francisco) have been used to mobilize various people. BTW, tumblr & Posterous are personal favorite apps on my iPod Touch 4G. Blogging is so "Yesterday" while MicroBlogging actually gets the message out. To me, Twitter is so "Yesterday", as more choices come about. Blogger by Google is long form while tumblr is not. While Conservatives & Traditional Liberals are fighting over Radio & Television Time, more people are viewing their info & entertainment over You Tube, Vimeo, blip.tv, Daily Motion, Etcetera. I wonder if Rush Limbaugh knows this. Ditto, Don Imus! You Tube, though I now think of them as Status Quo, as much of what appears on there is garbage, is a New Media Forum. Vimeo is the Alternative & may actually reach more people, especially discerning & thoughtful people. The tumblr Crowd is like the Vimeo Crowd, more savvy than the You Tube Crowd. Posterous is the same way & is a useful networking app. Blip.tv is another way of Video Communication. And still the best way to communicate is through Personal Contact. I do remember when a Democratic Party Operative,, who I personally knew for a # of years, persuaded me to vote for his candidate, one Elizabeth Crowley, for City Council. I was cool with that. The Republicans sent no one to my Polling Place. Though Radio & Television are still big, Personal Contact & The New Media are the way to go to get the Message out there. Even the NY Times, NY Daily News & NY Post are utilizing the "New Media", as newspapers are blasé. More people read news in Free Papers such as Metro & AM New York, often bypassing the Big Three Papers & Newsday. Newsday publishes AM New York. But, more people read their news online, whether on Desktops or Mobile Devices. I, more often than not, will read the NY Times online. Why pay $1 on a Daily Basis, when one can read it for free. Not that I ever agree with Barack Obama, but his people including him, did utilize New Media, very effectively. Facebook will be supplanted by something else, like Google Plus. Startups like tumblr, do get the message out there. Tumblr is infinitely more interesting than Twitter. The Young tend to adapt to New Media, more so than people in their 50s & 60s. My experience with Producers/Directors, with a penchant for the New Media, has shown that there is an Audience out there, tired of SOS(Same Old Stuff). As my 2011 Video Production of the Knights Of Columbus Int'l Free Throw Basketball Championship proved, people will view this event on something other than You Tube, if Vimeo, Daily Motion & blip.tv are any indication, as You Tube was dramatically outdrawn by these other outlets. The New Media are variety of communication, information & entertainment. They are not limited to one or two outlets. The White House has channels on both YouTube(Mainstream) & Vimeo(Alternative). Those to The Right Of Centre must utilize the New Media to the fullest, as that is where people are headed these days. The Left Of Centre did pave the way.
