Things Of More Importance Must Occur

Now, Before We delve into ALL THINGS BASEBALL, there are a few Religious Obligations one must pay attention to:

Currently, Pesach or Passover is in session. The Truly Orthodox Jews have shut down their businesses until Tuesday. All Jews have a Seder or Meal Commemorating The Flight from Egypt on The 1st Night;

Now, in regards to Christianity, This is Holy Week which began with The Offering of Passion/Palm Sunday;

Maundy Or Holy Thursday commemorates The Last Supper, which was a Passover Seder, when Christ gathered in the Upper Room with His Apostles. He would Actually be betrayed by One of The 12, One Judas Escariot, who was Treasurer Of The Apostles & Would Sell Out Christ for 30 Pieces Of Silver. Maundy Or Holy Thursday is called The Easter Triduum, in anticipation of The Death & Resurrection of Christ from The Tomb on Easter Sunday. Because The Christ had the Apostles take part in this Pesach Celebration, as The Christ Offered up The Matzoh & Wine, the Matzoh explains why the Unleavened Bread is used in Eucharistic Celebrations in The Church Today. For He said "Take & Eat for THIS is My Body." In the Offering of The Wine, "Take & Drink For THIS Is My Blood-Do This In Remembrance Of Me", indicates that, according to Catholic Theology, a Sacrifice Had Occurred, abeit Unbloody, hence The Mass. That Work was Completed on Good Friday With His Death On The Cross, Crucifixion being the Roman Method Of Execution;

Holy Saturday is a Preparation Day to The Resurrection. In the Evening is The Easter Vigil, essentially when The Church comes back to Life, The Bells are rung, The Gloria In Excelcis Deo & The Alleluia are sung(Traditionally, for me, This Is Quite-Emotional). It should be noted that any Persons being Baptized, Confirmed & receiving 1st Holy Communion, do so at this Mass. Then There is The Joy of The Pasqua(Easter) & The Resurrection;

You see, Baseball Fans, all of this must occur before You can enjoy ESPN Sunday Night Baseball-Yankees at Red Sox. There are more-important Events than when Two Teams get together to throw and hit a ball around;

Passion/Palm Sunday At East 43 Street-Lexington To 3rd Avenue

The Guitar has no place in the Roman Catholic Liturgy. It has
ABSOLUTELY NONE. The Liturgy is the place of the Organ or Classical
Piano.
Should Children in the Second Grade learn to read the Greek and Latin
Responses to the prayers of the Liturgy? As they are young enough, I
say a resounding YES(Not The Network of the same name, as I mean
simply in the affirmative).
This Evening's Passion/Palm Sunday Mass only took 1Hour $ was well
coordinated. When the Gifts are presented to the Priest at The
Offertory, the Priest goes right into the Offertory Prayer. He is not
seated waiting for the collection to be taken up with kids strumming
guitars, singing some banal Quasi showtune for 6 verses.
Sanctus, Agnus Dei and Communion Antiphon were chanted in Latin.
"Michael, Row The Boat Ashore" has NO Place here.
For often I went to Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, just
out of habit and obligation. Now, I enjoy the Ordinary Rite of The
Mass, when offered in Solemnity and Beauty.
Unless I must be at some gathering which may take me out of my way, my
base Parish is in the Archdiocese of New York, on East 43 Street at
St. Agnes, where Bishop Sheen preached his Good Friday Homily & where
Mum was baptized & where I went to High School.

A Red Sox Video Channel We Can All Get Together On

Tired of YouTube?

If you have High Definition Video & want it to come out better, or plain old digital video, there's a great spot for it:

Vimeo!

There's even a group I've started Called "Baseball- New York & Boston" :

You can send the raw videos & I'll see about getting them on my channel, which should be easy, as I have an account;

Post Production Of This Video Series

1st of all, I appreciate the Ease Of Use of The System called Mac, with the stability of Mac OS X(Leopard), where I don't have to worry about when an application crashes, the whole system comes crashing down:

It is time to upgrade iLife & obtain a real digital camera. A simple cell phone camera will NOT do;

iWork '08 will stay put, as it was used to create titles and credits;

Hey, I like a system that works well. iMovie 5.0.2 was fine.

Then it's a Video of The Stadium II disappearing in its' upper reaches, followed by Gate Two, then about an athletic field in the rear of the old Stadium, & the new Stadium III;

Then onto Red Sox Nation-NY's HQ at Professor Thom's & the the Thank You's to various people;

There's a certain amount of Classical Music including Gregorian Chant in the videos, as well as a touch of Celtic Punk Rock & 1 TV Theme at the end;

Fifth Sunday Of Lent

In Today's Gospel, The Woman who supposedly committed Adultery. Jesus stopped a group of Pharisees from stoning the woman to death, then the penalty for Adultery.
One also wonders about the true intentions of these Pharisees, who truthfully were some of the biggest sinners in creation. One question I ask is did all these Pharisees have the same Sin on them?
For The Christ told her at the end of His Conversation "Go & Sin No More."
How often do we fail at that?

Stadium Mini-Documentaries

There is going to be a number of retrieved films, which will be edited before being put up on Vimeo, BlipTV and on iTunes. They have been recovered as part of a farewell retrospective on two of New York's Baseball Stadiums.
Editing software will be iMovie on Mac, as well as another editor to give these films a more professional look to them. Certain Special Effects will be added.
These films, in my opinion, do not belong on YouTube. A woman, whose judgement I trust in all things of an Artistic Nature, Amanda Cole, has inspired this tribute/commentary on the end of both Shea & Yankee Stadiums. Hence there will be no YouTube for these retrospective films.
Mind you, a cell phone video camera was used, but the two stadia tribute/documentary will look better than sheer amateur video. Think of it as disposable video on Vimeo and a Mini Documentary on BlipTV, as well as a podcast on iTunes. It is worth a shot. And it will get that professional look on a Mac with all that good video software, as well as background music from GarageBand.

The Fallacy Of Yankee Stadium II

This location called Yankee Stadium on the South Side of West 161st Street, between River Avenue and West 157th Street in The Bronx, is NOT the Original Yankee Stadium. It is not even close.

People across the Continent have been duped into believing that Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Joe Di Maggio, all called THIS Stadium their Home. Please let me let loose with a huge belch, as The Original Stadium did NOT have Escalator Towers nor a Video Board. It was not the Actual Home of the "Black Yankees" of the Negro Leagues, as they played in New Jersey, except for a couple of games in Yankee Stadium I.

In fact, the 1st Home of The NY Yankees was where NY Presbyterian Hospital is now. Could it be said that Hilltop Park was the 1st Yankee Stadium?

Perhaps not as Yankee Stadium I and II are associated with Winners, while Hilltop Park played host to the team called The NY Highlanders, forerunners to the Yankees Name.

The Media called the team The Yankees. In Hilltop Park, a one level stadium with a roof, The Yankees weren't all that competetive. One could've heard that earliest rendition of "Yankees Suck." But that cry of Red Sox Nation only came into being in the "Era Of George Steinbrenner."

But Yankee Stadium II actually belongs to the "Era of Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera", not Ruth, or Mantle. Their Stadium of 51 Seasons is long gone, replaced by a 1970s Ballpark, no more magnificent than Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. In fact, Praeger-Kavanaugh-Waterbury was architect for Dodger Stadium, the Now Departed Shea Stadium and the Now Departing Yankee Stadium II.

Yankee Stadium I is long gone. That 1970s Iteration will soon be gone as well.

So much for the Baseball Fallacy of Yankee Stadium 1923-2008, as it was only a marketing ploy to deceive the Naive.

Yankee Stadium II's Stands Are 65% Gone

35% Of Tier Level Yankee Stadium Remains
The outer shell is illuminated on the inside. A section of Tier along the 1st Base Side & the Right Field Tier Section is all thatt remains of Yankee Stadiium Stands.
Was it really necessary to build a new Yankee Stadium?
Could it be that Steinbrenner was following the lead of NY Mets Ownership?
Yes, George followed what Fred and Jeffy Wilpon wanted to do.
The Wilpons had these plans for Citi Field since 1997. Citi Field was pared down to a total capacity of 41,800, considerably less than Shea Stadium, with an Ebbets Field Exterior but Polo Grounds Outfield Dimensions.
George then decided that he wanted a new playpen, hence a New Yankee Stadium with more luxury seating.
But could something have been done with the existing structure.
Possibly NOt, as the now disappearing Stadium had a beam collapse in it. Also, due to the fact that the previous structure was being tested with crowds which didn't exist in the 1980s and 1990s, it was time for a new, airier stadium.
But remember this-what is being torn down was only in use for 33 Seasons, not 86 Seasons. 1923-2008 was all hype.

Mets Fans & Shea Stadium

There is something to be said for Mets Fans:
They actually took more of a part in mourning the loss of Shea Stadium. In fact they took more of a part of mourning the loss of Shea Stadium than the Yankees Fans took in mourning the loss of the prior Yankee Stadium.
You see, Shea Stadium was the site of Joys and Sorrows. Plus, Shea actually housed more enthusiastic fans. Shea was a place where Red Sox Nation could sit in exile and was less expensive to go to than Yankee Stadium. The real fans are actually more appreciative of their team than Yankees Fans could ever be. Shea was laid back.
Shea Stadium is missed & the fans there were real as they were both entertained and were entertaining. Anybody wearing a 13 A-Rod Jersey was serenaded. Red Sox Nation even learned a few chants from Mets Fans, mostly in connection with A-Rod.
Shea was The Real Deal.
And Shea is gone.

A Question About A NYC Subway Line

WHAT was so INDEPENDENT about the Independent Subway or ICOSS, which stands for Independent City Owned Subway System? Really, what made it Independent?
It was not owned by a private company. The BMT or Brooklyn Manhattan Transit Company, formerly the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company, ran subways, trolleys, bus routes and elevated lines in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. The company traded on the NY Stock Exchange for $65 per share. It invested in great rolling stock to make traveling comfortable.
Rather, the Independent Subway was a public work created possibly for spite. Mayor John Hylan was once a BRT Motorman who was fired for union organizing activities, not for reading law books while driving his train. Hylan built the IND to undermine BMT Lines.
Independent Subway was run by politicians, hence it should be called Political Run Transit or PRT.
Today, IND Trains traverse the Old BMT Lines on the West End, 4th Avenue and Brighton Lines and The Culver Line. The R is serviced in an IND Yard. The B & D are 6th Avenue IND as well as the F Line. The N is BMT as is the Q. Only the N in Brooklyn is a pure BMT Line. The IRT 7 is for point of connection and Maintenence a BMT Line.
The only real BMT Lines are J, M & Z Lines with the N & W Lines. The A is IND running on former BMT Trackage over the remains of the Fulton Street Line over Liberty Avenue. The F runs over the former BMT Culver Line.
The IND now reigns Supreme as it and BMT are one division.
IRT Lines used to be names and mo numbers. BMT used to be numbers. The IND is all letters. The IND's nomenclature is all over the BMT. Hence, BMT has ceased to exist. Hylan won his war.

If you guessed that the Gentleman in Question is Davey Johnson, he a Piece of Shea Stadium Irony in that he was both the last out of the 1969 World Series & Manager of the 1986 World Series Champion NY Mets.
This other piece of trivia is that his operation was computerized.

4K Texts-A Bit MUCH

4K Texts per month?
It has reached this level of insanity, as an 8th Grade Girl in Florida recently had surgery to correct a severe case of Carpal-Tunnel Syndrome. Just how many times can one use one's thumb as a writing finger? The thumb is basically a gripping finger, not a writing one.
There are two nations most-noted for the use of Texting, namely The Philippines and Ireland. In Irish Pubs, I have witnessed this "Digital Ping Pong" as Irish Women, Men and Wee Ones silently converse from North America to Ireland(Republic and North). T-Mobile tends to be the company of choice for Irish Texters. In Europe and North America.
Texting is cheaper than voice across the pond. Also one does not run the risk of radiation levels by using voice.
Moderate your text use, yet use that somewhat more than voice, to cut down on radiation, as these cell phones are really and basically radios. If you must talk, use earphones to greatly lessen the radiation.

MMMCCCX-Ramirez Spells "No Relief"

Raul Ramirez is a Reliever for The Boston Red Sox.
He has all the talent of Armando Benitez and Guillermo Mota, not to mention Eric Gagne', No Fenway Favorite. The prior two were NOT Shea Stadium Favorites.
Ramirez ruined my end of St. Patrick's Day Parade #249(New York), by blowing the game to a team which I spell "M-E-S-S, Mets, Mets, Mets", 4-2.
Is Ramirez "The New Gagne'"? "The New Benitez?" "The New Mota?"

High Five 5th Avenue Yesterday On March 17th

High Five Avenue
You are the Parade Marshall for your Irish County at the NYC St. Patrick's Day. Today, I filled that role for the Queens County Board of The Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish Catholic Social Fraternal Order.
Where did all those NY Jets Fans go?
Why do I ask that question? In prior St. Patrick's Day Parades, I witnessed so many Green NY Jets Jerseys being worn and the chant of "J-E-T-S" on 5th Avenue. Where was JETS Nation TODAY?
Today was born the new Queens County 5th Avenue Tradition of The High Five. I love when the Wee Ones do it with you, but many adults joined in. The "J-E-T-S" chant was used four times. People would chant "Hey Marshall" & "The High Five" would work the way on 5th Avenue.
A Memorable March 17th!

A Beautiful Spring-Like St.Patrick's Day

We of Irish Descent, look so forward to St. Patrick's Day. It comes and it goes. Today it was rather mild in NYC but it was dry and not bloody humid. Several years ago, the temperature was 73•F, but horrifically Humid, which caused me to perspire out Electrolytes, only to take in Gatorade, only to lose those Electrolytes & this was in the Middle 1990s.
Today, it was warm on the 5th Avenue Route, but it was dry and comfortable, requiring only water for me.

MMMCCXCIX-WHERE Are The Young People At "Folk" Masses?

I have the Unmitigated Gall to ask this question & with Good Reason, as I was at a "Folk" Mass this past Sunday. It is at these Liturgies where ALL of The Hymn is sung, as if this was a Sarum Rite Mass, except that in The Sarum Rite, the Music is STATELY, Solemn & Beautiful:

The "Folk" Mass is used to draw the Young People to Mass. WHERE are they? Yet, whenever I am at St Agnes at East 43rd Street, which now is most Sundays and Holy Days Of Obligation, I find young people & they are attracted to both the Traditional Latin Mass & The Ordinary Rite, which also features Gregorian Chant with some prayers chanted or sung in Latin. Many prefer to kneel at the Altar Rail instead of standing in the queue to receive Holy Communion. These Young People are turned off by "Folk" Liturgy and seek the Beauty & Solemnity of The Mass. I also seek it, after years of "Liturgically Innovative" Music & Practice, which often bored me nearly to tears;

People seek The Beauty Of Traditional Practice. They Seek Fullness in Liturgy, NOT Shallowness. They desire to be challenged & not Patronized. They want their Catholic Liturgy to be CATHOLIC, NOT Something Else like a Campfire Singalong;

The Traditional is making a Resounding Return. Funny, but I actually see more Elderly Women at Folk Liturgy these days, as the Young Folk have become more Traditional;

The things which annoy me about Folk Liturgy are as follows:
Shallow Liturgical Music Sung to the Last Verse, in all four "Hymns"of the Haugen-Haas "Campfire" Variety;
The Responsorial Psalm(The Gradual) is most often different from the Psalm of That Particular Sunday or Holy Day Of Obligation;
The Presentation Of The Gifts at The Offertory, when the Priest doesn't begin the Offertory until the Conclusion of The Hymn, which is often not a Praiseworthy Hymn;
The Announcements, often near the end of Mass, is a time for a long message, better left in the parish bulliten. This sometimes goes for an extra 15 minutes, causing for a tired and distracted parishioner;
For no reason, is longest Mass of The Day;

The Young People are NOT at The Folk Mass, whose time has Come & GONE;

MMMCCXCVI-Meeting Someone Of Tradition

I Never Know Who I Am About To Run Into At The Apple Store
A Woman who I know from the Traditional Latin Mass, called Valerie, has informed me about a nightly Traditional Mass at Holy Innocents Parish at West 37 Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue @ 6:00PM.
She is also a Mac User like I am.
Neither of us understands why the Priest stops his duties to allow a hymn to be sung at the Offertory as well as for halting for the collection to be taken up.
I guess that I am no fan of Contemporary Ordinary Liturgy, preferring the Solemn, complete with Gregorian Chant with Latin in the Ordinary Rite Of The Mass.

MMMCCXCII>All To Protect A Dirty Deal

All In The Name Of A Deal
I remember a piece of law called the New York State Criminal Procedure Law, particularly CPL 2.10(Who is designated a Peace Officer) & CPL 2.20(Power of Peace Officers). There is also Section 14-106(e) of the NYC Administrative Code, explaining NYC Special Patrolman.
Sadly, assorted slackers, some of whom need a dictionary in order to spell the word "Suck", have bypassed the true meaning of the definition of a Peace Officer, in order to protect assorted characters and their private niches.
I wonder just who Manny of Columbia Street would have given up had he been processed as a prisoner, instead of being let go so some slacker could collect a favor, as well as protecting some grafter who feared being exposed. In the case of The Slacker, WHY was he so afraid of a phone call about himself? What favor did he expect to collect?
A message was sent-You Will Suffer For Being Honest.

Mets Fans With The Deconstruction Of Shea Stadium-A Look At Fans Who Did Something Rare & Daring

It was in January, 2009 when two Mets Fans went inside of a Partially Demolished Shea Stadium & shot this video:

Mets Fans often gathered in The Citi Field Parking Lot, shot videos & photos, Sang songs, laughed & cried. To them, Shea Stadium was home;

Granted, the bases, home plate & the Pitchers Mound are marked in the Citi Field Parking Lot;

Mets Fans gathered every day while Shea Stadium was being dismantled;

Hence, watch the video. I wonder if there will be someone who shot videos from inside of Yankee Stadium II?

The Yankees Fans' Cry To Save Old Yankee Stadium Gate 2 May Just Be Understandable

In 1915, Braves Field was completed in Boston's Allston-Brighton Area. In 1953, the Braves moved to Milwaukee, selling Braves Field to Boston University. Currently, the Right Field Grandstand & Old Ticket Offices remain, so there is some continuous history of a former MLB Park other than Fenway Park in Boston, still being used for Sporting Events.

In regards to New York City Parkland being restored on the site of the prior two Yankee Stadiums, on River Avenue between West 157th & 161st Streets, it may just be a good idea to keep Yankee Stadium Gate Two, about the only part of the two Yankee Stadiums not to have an elevator bank in front of it, as well as being the ONLY Part to have been part of both Yankee Stadiums, standing in order to remind fans of what stood there over the years.

Besides, who needs another plaque on a site, anyway as Gate Two would fit in nicely with Heritage Field!

1923-2008? Below Is The New Yankee Stadium Being Constructed In 1974 & 1975

The Original Stadium was expanded-Once in 1928 & again in 1937. The Original Tier(Upper)Level was a lot smaller and was expanded upward & downward over 1974 & 1975. The Original SITE is being demolished, as the Original Stadium including the 1928 & 1937 Expansions, was demolished & re-built as a New Stadium, completed in 1976. What is really being demolished is essentially a 32 1/2 Year Old 2nd Yankee Stadium. Because when I was at the Last Ever Game in the 1937 Expanded Yankee Stadium on Sunday, 09/30/1973, this means that this Stadium was NOT in continuous use from 1923 to 2008, it means that Shea Stadium, now the site of the Citi Field Parking Lot, served for 44.5 years in Queens, including being the Yankees Home in 1974 & 1975 & for 1 Game in 1998.

One can actually say that both Major League Baseball & The NY Yankees were being disingenuous in regards to the length of service of Yankee Stadium, which was NOT in continuous use for 86 Seasons, as both Yankee Stadiums on the same site used two different architects.

Let the Film by "The Stadium Guy" speak for itself.

Guitars & Chant

For today I am at a joyful St. Patrick's Day Party, sponsored by Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 14 from Richmond Hill, Queens, NY. Unfortunately it also means that I had to go to Mass in Queens in order to be at the Party, being held at The Irish American Cultural Center on Willis Avenue in Mineola, the County Seat of Nassau County in the Town of North Hempstead, NY.
Usually, I attend Mass at St. Agnes on East 43 Street in Midtown Manhattan, not far from the United Nations. There, Mass begins with the Chanting in Plainsong of the Opening Antiphon, the 1st 2 or 3 Verses of a Stately Hymn, the Kyrie is chanted in Greek, the Sanctus, and Agnus Dei are sung in Latin and the Communion Antiphon is chanted in Latin. The closing hymn is sung. At Communion Time, one either receives in a queue or kneeling at the Altar Rail. To me and many others who head to East 43 Street, it is a stark departure from Catholic Liturgy with Banal Music. In short, I am NOT a Fan of Folk Masses.
The 5:15 PM Mass at St. Agnes is something I look forward to. Alas, this was not the case today.
Please Spare Me. Procession, with "Amazing Grace" was fine, but Guitars and Wee Ones I find are not a good mix in Catholic Liturgy.
The music which followed was "Haugen-Haas" Banal. Not that the Children were all that bad which they weren't but I am not a fan of Folk Masses, PERIOD.
The 5:15PM, in all the beauty, only lasts between 43 & 50 minutes. The 12:00Noon Mass lasted 1:20, what with announcements and banal music and the Sign Of Peace. At East 43 Street, the Agnus Dei starts immediately after the Sign of Peace, which means the greetings are held to an absolute minimum. During Holy Communion, only the Antiphon is sung and it is sung in Latin.
Though there is something encouraging to witness, in that Real Confessionals have been installed and the Tabernacle has returned to the Centre of The Altar. But, Guitars don't belong at Mass. They do belong at parties, especially today's AOH Division 14 Party, strummed by Thomas Mulvehill.
